Apple Oatmeal Crisp

Filling
    * 6 cups thinly sliced or cubed apples, peeled is best
    * 1 lemon
    * 1/2 cup sugar
    * 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
    * 1/4 cup melted butter
    * 4 tablespoons flour
    * 2 tsp cinnamon
    * 1/2 tsp nutmeg
Topping:
    * 1/2 cup all purpose flour
    * 1/2 cup granulated sugar
    * 6 tablespoons cubed cold butter
    * 1/2 cup rolled oats
    * 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
    * 1/2 tsp nutmeg

Directions

  1. Toss sliced apples with lemon juice in a glass dish for the oven.
  2. Then add sugars and melted butter. Mix well.
  3. Then add the flour, and spices, stir until mixture is well blended. Prepare pie shell.
  4. In a food processor, combine topping ingredients; pulse until mixture is crumbly.(I do this part with a fork in a bowl and takes a little bit more elbow grease but works just fine.)
  5. Sprinkle topping mix evenly over top of apples.
  6. Place in preheated 175° oven. Bake for about 45 to 60 minutes, until apples are tender and topping is golden brown.
