Orange Cake With Dates
1  cup softened butter 
2  cups sugar 
3  beaten eggs 
4  cups flour

1  cup softened butter

1  teaspoon baking soda 
1  teaspoon salt 
1 1/3  cups buttermilk 
1  cup chopped walnuts 
1  cup chopped dates 
1  teaspoon grated orange rind
1  teaspoon vanilla 

For a Glaze
1/4  cup orange juice 
1/2  cup sugar 
2  teaspoons grated orange rind 


1.In large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add eggs; mix well.
2.Combine flour, soda, and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk.
3.Fold in walnuts, dates, and orange peel. Pour into 2 greased and floured large loaf pans. Or a bundt pan.
4.Bake at 180* for 60 minutes or until done.
5.Combine glaze ingredients; spoon half over hot bread.
6.Cool for 10 minutes; remove from pans. Spoon remaining glaze over.

* You can substitute any flavoring instead of Orange if you prefer... Use a flavor essance, like Almond, Maple or extra vanilla..
