The Egyptian Baklava By: mahasoliman

  • 1 package frozen Filo Dough
  • 1 1/2 cups butter
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 2 cups mix of nuts (any kind you like), golden raisin and coconut powder
  • 4 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

 

Make the syrup a day ahead. You should pour cool syrup over the hot baklava.

Combine 1 ½ cups water and 3 cups sugar in a medium saucepan. Bring to boil. Add juice lemon and allow to boil for 10 minutes till it looks thick.  

Remove form heat. Allow to cool. Add Vanilla.

Combine 4 teaspoons sugar, cinnamon and the 2 cups mix in bowl.

Preheat oven too 325ْ.

Combine butter in saucepan tell it melts.

Butter bottom of pan with butter. Place two sheets of filo dough in the pan.

Brush the layer with butter. Repeat until the half amount of filo dough is finished.

Add the mix. Repeat again placing the two sheets and brushing the butter tell the final layer brush it well.

Cut into 3 inch squares then cut each square in half diagonally to make triangles.

Bake for 30 – 35 minutes. Remove from oven and pour syrup over the top of the baklava.

Enjoy the sweet test with each bite, makes it a dessert that is one of a kind.
